Depending on the student’s age, I would use clips from YouTube for students to practice their listening skills in an organic format, and these would also be visually engaging so that the student can listen and learn at the same time. We would also engage in casual conversation, and I find that with my knowledge of linguistics, I can usually explain the way certain words or grammar rules are the way they are , so that students can understand these concepts more easily and feel free to ask questions.
Exercise sheets tailored to the student’s interests and skills will also be provided so that the lessons feels adapted for the specific student.
For adult learners I believe casual conversation is the way the learn, as it is a form of immersion and questions can be asked along the way. Depending on the learner’s goals, lessons can range from basic conversations for a holiday to Italy, to translation exercises and learning of grammar rules for a more hands on approach.
