I have been teaching children online for more than two years. In order to get my students more engaged, I relate the subject to their everyday experiences. Since kids might only be able to focus for limited amounts of time and have short attention spans, I keep the explanation part shorter but more accessible.
To keep the kids more engaged, I schedule time for them before, during, and after class.
When the kids are uninterested, I make them play educational games and set up challenges for them to complete.

My class has always been informative, interesting and educational.
