I have 10 years experience teaching English as a foreign language in the private banking sector in Switzerland. Here in the UK I have 4 years tutoring experience. I work 1:1, either online or in-person with secondary students who struggle with school. My focus is on building their functional skills in these subjects. I can also help them prepare for the City and Guilds Functional Skills exams.

For students whose first language is not English I can also help them improve in the language.

My approach is relaxed and patient, lessons are always tailored to the individual. I lessons I use downloaded resources as well as explanation videos, I use a lot of example questions to make sure the student understands the subject before setting the task. Each lesson has its own 'learning objective', however, sometimes other questions on a subject can arise which can be interesting to explore. Personally I am very interested in a range of subjects such as history, science, technology, art and geography.

My approach is very much to help students develop their intellectual curiosity and enjoyment of learning. Learning is not just about passing a test but also about learning how to think, ask questions and develop critical thinking.

In my experience working with students who have ASD, I really take the time to break questions down for them in a way they can process, removing any irrelevant information which might confuse them.

I also have years of experience in the commercial world and as students progress through their scondary education I can also help mentor them as they think about what they might like to do in the world of work.
