I begin by finding out exactly what each student needs, including their current level, gaps in knowledge, exam board and the topics they are currently studying at school. I then tailor each lesson around these needs, making sure that we build on what they already know rather than simply repeating content they have mastered.

My teaching style is clear, structured and traditional. I use my own PowerPoint presentations and a whiteboard to explain concepts step-by-step, breaking down more difficult topics into manageable sections. Throughout the lesson, I use short knowledge checks and questioning to assess understanding and identify any areas that need further explanation.

Once I am confident that a student understands the content, I use exam-style questions to help them apply their knowledge and develop their exam technique. I also focus on common misconceptions and exam mistakes so that students understand not only the science, but how to communicate their answers effectively and gain marks.

My aim is for every student to leave each lesson feeling that they have genuinely learnt something and are clearer and more confident about the subject than when they started. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and working through areas they find difficult, while still maintaining a focused and purposeful approach to learning.
