I am a first-class languages graduate from the University of Cambridge, and I'm now starting my professional career as a teacher.
During my time at University, I spent a year abroad teaching English to students in Paraguay, of all ages and abilities. These included large and small, one-to-one classes. This experience solidified my already growing interest in teaching and helped me to develop my own style. I found that my students worked best in a relaxed atmosphere, with a variety of activities that suited visual, kinaesthetic, and auditory learners.
My didactic methodology became far more advanced as I completed the CELTA teacher training, where I learnt how to engage students in the topic, give good instructions and examples, and make my lessons student-oriented. That is to say, I want to ensure my students are active and engaged in working out the answers through tasks, puzzles and targeted questions. I try to avoid lecturing at all costs! I find that students do not absorb information very well if they are forced to sit and listen to the teacher talk for a whole hour.
As I begin my one-to-one tutoring journey, I recognise how important it is to tailor lessons to the student's needs. Our first session is free, and during this time we will get to know each other, I will identify your current language level and discuss your target areas that we will address during tuition sessions, and you can decide whether I will suit your requirements as a tutor!
I will always be committed to helping you achieve your personal goals: for languages this may pertain to a certain grade in your GCSE or A-level exams, a place at a particular university such as Oxbridge, or it may be that you want to improve your conversational abilities as you seek opportunities abroad.
Our classes will be online via a platform which is convenient for you, e.g., Zoom, Google Meet.
