I like to divide the lessons in 2 different blocks: The fun ones: Reading, Listening & Speaking and the Non-that-fun ones Grammar & Vocabulary. I tend to make special emphasis on the grammar aspect, as this is how I learned English from scratch and completely by myself. I am now in the process to learn Latvian using the same method.

I helped an Irish teenager to pass her Spanish exams in high school. She was getting expensive private lessons which were not making any difference. I discovered that she was not being taught grammar, the fundamentals to understand any language. Once you get to know it, it is just playing with vocabulary. Suddenly your listening and reading improve drastically and so you become less shy to do your speaking. Believe me, it works!

I acquired a great deal of teaching materials during the 5 months I helped that Irish teenager. Visuals, exercises, audio recordings, etc. Those materials were provided by her school and they are great.
