My lessons are tailored to the individual student and their goals, whether that is improving confidence, preparing for exams, catching up with a course, or developing a deeper understanding of mathematics or physics.
I believe that most students learn best when they understand the reasoning behind a method rather than simply memorising steps. My approach focuses on building intuition, problem-solving skills, and confidence. I encourage students to ask questions and think through problems actively rather than passively following solutions.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and combines explanation, worked examples, and guided practice. I use diagrams, visual explanations, and step-by-step problem solving to help students understand difficult concepts. For online lessons, I use a digital whiteboard so that students can see calculations and diagrams being developed in real time.
During my PhD at the University of Glasgow, I worked as a tutor-demonstrator supporting undergraduate students in physics, mathematics, computational modelling, and laboratory classes. I also provided one-to-one tutoring in mathematics and physics throughout my postgraduate studies.
I particularly enjoy working with students who feel stuck or lack confidence in the subject. Having returned to education as a mature student myself, I understand that ability in maths and physics is not fixed, and that with the right explanations and practice, students can make significant progress.
Lessons are available for National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, GCSE, A-Level, and selected university or foundation-level mathematics and physics courses.
