My lessons are structured around a focused 1-hour format designed to maximise progress, build confidence, and ensure students get the most value from each session. Every lesson is personalised around the student’s current challenges, whether they need support with ideation, technical understanding, coursework development, portfolio improvement, or strengthening their overall design process.

The first 10 minutes of the lesson will focus on understanding the student’s goals and reviewing their current work. This may include sketches, CAD models, prototypes, research, calculations, or design concepts. We will identify key areas for improvement and establish a clear objective for the session.

The next 35 minutes will focus on developing the student’s knowledge and practical skills through guided learning. Depending on their needs, this could involve improving concept generation, sketching techniques, user-centred design approaches, design methodology, electronics, mechanics, prototyping, or Design for Manufacture (DfM). I focus on explaining the reasoning behind successful design decisions, helping students understand how and why solutions work rather than simply providing answers.

The final 15 minutes will be used to review progress, discuss key learning points, and create clear next steps for continued improvement. Students will leave each session with practical guidance they can apply independently to their own projects.

I have experience across studio product design, electronics, mechanics, empathetic design, design sprints, new product development, and manufacturing processes. Having recently faced the same challenges throughout my degree, I aim to provide a supportive and approachable learning environment that helps students become more confident and capable designers.
