Having taught English and French for many years, I have developed diverse methods to achieve the best results possible. Usually, I allow students to discover for themselves for lasting learning. However, as a seasoned teacher, I play the facilitator role to stimulate and guide the learners toward the desired goal for the lesson.
Teaching requires spontaneous decision making, and experience plays a very crucial role. While it may not e possible to decide all in advance as the interaction with the learners dictates how the teacher proceeds from there. In my teaching, it is not surprising to joke, dance and sing depending on the mood of the class and the lesson at hand.
In French teaching, I use singing some French songs as a way to help learners pronounce certain sounds correctly.
My lesson takes the following structure: 1. Introduction: this may take the form of recapitulation, a story, or anything that can attract the attention of the learners to a certain topic. 2. Development: Here I will deal with the topic. Learners are led to discover how things are organised and resolved. 3. Evaluation: learners are tested to see if they have grasped the concept through an oral or written exercise. 4. Homework or Task for the home. This is given to consolidate the understanding of the lesson .
Lastly it should be noted that a good lesson shall cause learners to show that they have understood the lesson and are ready to operate even in a real life situation.
