Tutoring Art, Maths and English; although I specialise in supporting students with Special Education Needs, I also tutor those without SEN too.
Having learnt from some fantastic teachers and worked with a wide range of students, the number one thing in my lessons is for me to get to know the student, and for the student to get to know and trust me; to build the relationship. My format and teaching style is never the same for any two students; as I get to know each student, I will tailor my approach and delivery to best suit the individual.
I've worked with a number of SENDs too long to list, although the majority being ASD and PDA; I have developed patience and understanding, along with recognising the importance of tailoring sessions for each individual. I do not believe in the traditional school approach of 'sink or swim', whereby a teacher will deliver content at a set pace, moving on from one topic to the next before students have had time to understand and follow along, and students are all expected to keep up at the same pace.
As a private tutor, I am not pressured by school management to tick this box and that box. Instead, I am able to deliver sessions the way education should be delivered; by identifying a child's needs and planning and delivering sessions in such a way that empowers the student, boosts their confidence, their self-esteem, and enables them to problem-solve, build resilience, make progress in their learning, and find enjoyment along the way.
I am no traditionist by any means; I am a believer that every child should be listened to, understood, and given the opportunity to progress as an individual. If your child is finding learning at school challenging, or a certain subject such as maths seems to be moving quicker than they can keep up with, or perhaps they've missed education due to Covid, or simply lack confidence and need a little boost and guidance, or just someone to take the time to understand them, then please get in touch and I hope to be able to help.
