Each student is unique and so is each class curriculum. Students seek to learn a language for a multitude of reasons. Some want to have better relationships with their (grand)children, others are learning to attain academic or professional goals. No matter the aim in mind of learning English, I will create the lessons for each student. Focusing on practical and conversational English with listening comprehension exercises from the internet and/or the television allows learners to hear phrases in context. Practicing words and phrases in class with me gives students the opportunities to use the target language in a meaningful and logical manner. Language is best learned in a fun environment. Language also must be used to acquire and recall it. Through multi-media and authentic texts, students will be able to understand English around them and how to deduce meaning behind unfamiliar words and phrases.
Students are welcome to bring in questions as material for themselves and their fellow classmates. Nothing is more interesting than finding out that peers have related questions and may also have similar challenges. Also, classes offer the opportunity for students to support one another in their language learning journey with my guidance and instruction. There will be role playing (if possible) and conversational use of the target language, English. This also connects students on a cultural level which is another important factor in my classes.
Understanding different cultures allows people to better communicate and be understood. Bridging the cultural gap through conversation offers new perceptions among one another.
