I specialise in Fashion, with a B.Ed degree in Fashion & Textiles and 40 years teaching and tutoring experience in my subject. I deliver practical lessons in design, dressmaking and pattern drafting to students of any ages, at all stages of education. I can adapt my teaching style and materials to suit learners of different abilities and neuro types, especially those with autism and/or ADHD, Dyslexia and dyspraxia, as I am also an ASC specialist mentor and study skills tutor for neurodivergent undergraduates. I am patient, caring and empathetic and treat every student individually according their unique learning style and specific needs. I can adapt to most teaching environments and modify the teaching materials or the setting, as appropriate to provide a calm, safe and practical space to work in. I prefer to work in person as I take a very hands on approach, offering practical assistance where necessary. But am happy to work remotely too. I teach by example, providing practical demonstrations for the student to follow, revisiting skills and techniques to reinforce learning and build on prior knowledge and understanding. I can adapt my teaching methods to comply with any set scheme of work or design brief, in accordance with curriculum and exam board requirements. Having worked as an examiner and moderator for my subject, I can also guide students to achieve the best results, based on my knowledge of exam board expectations and can interpret any GCSE or A level mark scheme for Art, Design and Technology.
