I believe in teaching through example. I understand the need for non-native speakers to observe samples, whether they be spoken or written. Language is naturally acquired through listening and reading. Vocabulary, syntax, fluency and expression are crucial for good oratory or writing skills.
I gear my lessons in a way that the student is able to acquire these skills naturally and they receive a tremendous boost of confidence. The lessons can incorporate various tools and methodologies depending on the student's needs and the subject matter. But they largely comprise illustrative PPTs, audio and visual stimulants, practice sessions, mock tests, relevant games and activities, and a conversational style so the learner feels at ease.
I strongly advocate the CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) approach where interaction plays a key role, not only as a means but also as an end goal of learning. Hence, I encourage my students to immediately implement what they have learnt into practice so that it percolates down to the core and results in better retention and assimilation.
Every student is different and has a unique style of learning with varying strengths and weaknesses. I like to identify those factors right at the start so that I can facilitate learning in a more effective way.
