I'm currently pursuing my Master's degree in English Literary Studies from Exeter University. As a skilled, enthusiastic, educated, and detail-oriented English postgraduate with experience in supporting students and juniors outside of the classroom environment, I can understand the academic challenges faced by a majority of students. Further, having taken classes online during the pandemic I also have a good understanding of the issues of engagement that come with remote learning. However, I believe that with some dedicated, tailored lesson plans I can help students enjoy their course and learn at a pace they are comfortable with and which allows them for maximum retention and comprehension.
Further, I believe that creating an excessively competitive teaching space doesn't always translate well as it pressures students unnecessarily so I usually try to take short pop quizzes during lessons after finishing a topic. This allows both the student and me to understand how much they have retained from the lesson, and what they are most comfortable with within a topic. Further, it allows me to decipher problem areas immediately which helps me in clearing any further doubts before moving on.
Being a master's student myself I have excellent writing and reading comprehension skills which I believe can have a significant impact as an English Tutor. From evaluating students' learning capabilities to helping them prepare for their language examination, I am certain I will be able to assist my students appropriately so they are not intimidated by the course material by simply trying to memorize it all, which can be quite problematic with subjects like Mathematics and English Literature. Instead, I will encourage and help them understand essential concepts, themes, etc which will not only help them with their comprehension of the material but also allow them to solve problems through proper reasoning. Such an approach will not only help in subjects like Mathematics where understanding core concepts will allow them to reason through any problem without having to learn a lot of theorems but will also help with subjects like literature and History where understanding overall themes, motives, etc. of the novel or historic period will allow them to write and think more consciously about the topics they study.
Lastly, I'm a proactive person and I hope to leverage my skills and experience as an academic to provide my students with the support they seek through their tutoring lessons so that they can excel in their respective academic environments.
