At the start of every lesson I will ask the student what they would like more support with, also having access to the subject syllabus to ensure we are covering what is needed. I would also review any previous work I had set (past paper questions etc) and use that in lieu with that they want to focus on to help structure the content of the lesson. I want the students to feel as though I am focusing on their weaknesses and prioritize that instead of content they are already familiar with.
Within my lessons I will use a range of different styles. Throughout the lesson I will use a word document to compile what is discussed through the session and what has been taught. This will be shared with the student so that they can read and practise from it. I will use past papers questions at the end of every lesson to go through and some to practice before each session. I will also have a copy of the texts they are studying so I can easily follow along with them when deciphering particular chapters or pages they may struggle with.
I have 2 years experience tutoring. I used to tutor within my sixth form, where I helped younger year students with vocabulary and language technique. Through this we would read through a variety of texts, investigating anything challenging or difficult to understand. Each week I would give texts (chapters etc) for them to practice reading through, highlighting language techniques and providing definitions for more sophisticated language that I had circled.
