To identify weaknesses in students’ misunderstandings and to work on them, hence providing a platform to future learning. I feel it essential to provide digestible steps in the learning journey enabling the student to become more confident. Feedback is necessary to enable the pupil to know how well she/he is progressing. I would encourage a learner to submit a list of topics which have previously not been understood. Spending time on each of them, should enable more future, rapid progress to be made. Examples relevant to their day to day experiences should facilitate grasp their attention.
I spent two years in Jamaica teaching the local children. Class sizes of over 45 were quite common. I was able to visit Haiti, Mexico and Miami.
When I returned to the UK, I was employed at a Leeds comprehensive school and studied part time at Leeds University for a Master In Education degree. I was awarded the qualification in January 1981. Five years later, I was seconded to study for a postgraduate diploma in computing at Bradford University. This experience enabled to visit the United States and visit schools in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
I would encourage students to inform me a couple of days before the lesson, the topic which has been studied in the previous lesson at school/college. Continuity should then be achieved and any problems resolved. At the end of each session, I consider it important to set follow up work for the student to attempt before the next session.
