I've been a tutor for about 4 years. I love working with kids. I worked with 1-5 grade tutored in different subjects which includes Writing, Math, Science, Reading, and sometimes Spanish. With Math first I will ask how the teacher taught them because if I do it the way I learned I might get them confused. Once I understand the way they learned it I break down the process like saying if 2+2 is 4 then 2×2 is 4 something similar to that. Writing is where I help with punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Reading is where I help with pronunciation, vowels, and vocabulary. English is both reading and writing in the U.S it's called reading and writing which are separate classes. When it comes to science that will depend on what they are learning right now and what they need help with the I will break it down to simplify the term or the lesson.
