Ciao! I'm Pamela, and I teach Italian with a focus on helping you actually speak it. I hold a BA in Modern Languages from the University of Exeter, where I specialised in Italian, and I spent a large part of my life living in Italy. That time gave me far more than the language. It taught me how Italians really talk, joke and interact day to day, and that side of Italian is what I love sharing with my students.
My studies and my own experience have taught me one thing above all: the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in its culture. That's why my lessons go beyond grammar drills. Alongside vocabulary and structure, we'll explore the expressions, habits and cultural context that make Italian come alive.
Everyone has different goals and starting points, so our first lesson is about getting to know you. I'll assess your current level and we'll talk about what you want to achieve, whether that's preparing for a trip, connecting with family, building confidence for work, or simply enjoying the language. From there, I'll shape the lessons around you.
If you're looking for someone to practise with, I'm very comfortable leading relaxed, natural conversation sessions where you can build fluency without pressure. I also believe strongly in role play. Near the end of each lesson, I'll give you a short real-life scenario, such as ordering at a restaurant, asking for directions or chatting with a new colleague, so you can prepare it and we can act it out together next time.
My aim is for you to leave every lesson feeling more confident and a little more at home in Italian. A presto!
