I like to base lessons around building confidence. I’ll aim for the student to become more independent and feel more able in their ability to complete work without needing guidance. This will look different for every student, but regardless I believe that everyone is capable of being great at English.
The lessons would probably start with some joint work, such as me explaining concepts and then checking understanding. I’d then want to help the student through a few different tasks to check if there are any areas I need to explain differently or in more detail for them. When I’ve gauged that the student has a better understanding of the topic I’ll then want to ask them to complete some independent work that I can then check, give constructive feedback, and help them fill in any areas of unsureness.
