Learning a language can be a scary endeavour, and is often perceived as being "too difficult" or just something you're not inherently good at. These are two myths around language-learning that are just NOT TRUE! You just haven't been taught the right skills to decode language and develop more independence and confidence in language learning!

The key to becoming a successful language learner is developing:

- Metalinguistic skills (developing an awareness of how language works so become better at pattern-recognition)
- Metacognitive skills (developing an awareness of your thinking processes, the mistakes you make, your approach to studying)
- Motivation (Creating a clear vision of where you want to be in your language journey and committing to the work you'll put in to get there)

As a Secondary Spanish Teacher and former Second in Department who holds an MA (Hons) in Spanish and Linguistics, I have extensive, tried-and-tested experience in sharpening and honing these skills and make "making mistakes" a normal part of the learning process.

My classes focus on:

- Vocabulary practice and retention
- Tackling grammar conjugation through lots of practice and informal testing
- Speaking practice (developing fluency through conversation, developing phonics awareness, drilling)
- Developing intuition and acquisition of new vocabulary through reading and listening
- Teaching Hispanic culture through music, film, popular culture etc.
- Setting timed writing tasks to improve both fluency and accuracy
