At the start of tutoring, I review the exam board specification with the student and discuss their academic challenges, both in lessons and under exam conditions. We also explore their learning style and any personal obstacles to create a clear, tailored plan that best supports their individual progress and unique learning preferences.

Lessons are designed to address the student’s specific needs, whether that involves understanding texts, structuring essays, or improving exam technique. Using examiner reports, past paper questions, and guided discussions around themes, characters, and essay structure, I keep sessions engaging, student-led, and supportive, with a strong focus on building confidence, independence, and critical thinking skills essential for exam success.

Students are encouraged to speak their ideas out loud, work from memory, and ask questions throughout, creating a relaxed yet focused atmosphere that fosters active learning, curiosity, and self-expression. Homework or revision tasks are set after every session to reinforce learning; if homework isn’t completed on time, we dedicate part or all of the next session to working through it together, ensuring consistent progress and accountability.
