My lessons are tailored to each student and what they want to achieve. I usually begin by identifying the areas they find most challenging and then plan lessons around these, combining structured teaching with discussion, practice exercises and regular feedback. I aim to make lessons engaging and conversational, while still ensuring that students are challenged and make clear progress.

Having studied Chinese at Oxford and spent time studying in China, I have an advanced level of Mandarin and can support students with speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, as well as GCSE and A-Level Chinese. I also have experience tutoring both children and adults, particularly in English and humanities subjects. I currently teach English to Mandarin-speaking students across a range of ages and abilities, as well as advanced English to Korean business professionals. My academic background also allows me to support students across humanities subjects, including English, History and Religious Studies/Philosophy, particularly with essay writing, critical thinking, argument and analysis.

Depending on the student, lessons might involve speaking practice, essay planning and writing, reading and comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, discussing challenging questions, or preparing for exams and interviews. I also set independent work where useful and adapt future lessons according to the student’s progress.

Above all, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and developing their own ideas. I am patient and encouraging, but I also like to challenge students to think more deeply and become increasingly confident working independently.
