I have taught students of all ages with different learning capacities but my methods are always the same. The most important factor when teaching for me is listening, no one knows ourselves better than ourselves. My lessons always start with a catch up: what are you finding hard or easy? Which topics do you feel need the most reinforcement? How was school overall this week?
After understanding my students struggles and worries we set goals for the week e.g 'By next week I will read a poem of my choice' or 'I will have at least half a page of notes for all of my classes'. These are achievable goals which can sometimes be overwhelming, that is why we do them one at a time!
We go through the coursework and focus on those parts of the subject we are finding the most difficult. At the end of the lesson we will always do a quick activity: listening games, card games, quiz games and more!
Learning the difficult things is always easier when its a guided process, schooling can be difficult and there is no reason to go through it alone.
