My lessons in Data and AI are built around one idea: understanding why something works, not just memorising the steps. Many students come to these topics feeling overwhelmed by jargon, so I always start by grounding new concepts in plain language and everyday examples before introducing the technical terms.
A typical lesson follows a simple structure: we start by checking in on what you already understand and what's confusing or new, then I introduce the concept using a real, practical example rather than abstract theory. For instance, exploring a real dataset in Python or SQL rather than just talking through syntax on a slide. From there, we work through a hands-on exercise together, where you write code or build something small yourself while I guide you, so you're actively applying the idea rather than passively watching me demonstrate it. We finish each session with a quick recap and a couple of practice questions or a small task to try before the next lesson, so the learning sticks.
I teach across a range of levels, from complete beginners who've never written a line of code, to university students working through machine learning coursework or a dissertation, to professionals wanting to build practical data skills for their job. My own background spans both the theory and the practical, applied side: I've built and compared deep learning models for my Master's dissertation, worked hands-on with SQL and Python daily in industry roles processing large real-world datasets, and reviewed AI model outputs professionally, so I can speak to how these concepts are actually used, not just how they're taught in a textbook.
I'm patient and adapt my pace to you, if something isn't clicking, we slow down and approach it a different way rather than moving on regardless. I also encourage questions throughout rather than saving them for the end, because most confusion is easiest to clear up in the moment it comes up.
Whether you're preparing for an exam, working on a university project, or want to build genuinely useful data/AI skills for your career, I'll tailor each lesson to what you actually need.
