I am a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Birmingham with over four years of tutoring experience. I have delivered more than 300 hours of one-to-one tuition and supported over 60 students, including learners with additional educational needs. I mainly teach GCSE Mathematics and Science, working with students who need help with the fundamentals as well as those aiming for the highest grades.
My lessons are tailored to each student’s level, exam board, learning style and academic goals. I begin by identifying gaps in knowledge and then create a clear plan so that every lesson has a specific purpose. During lessons, I explain topics step by step, work through examples and then give students the opportunity to answer similar questions independently.
I use a shared online whiteboard, exam-style questions and past papers to make lessons interactive and focused. I regularly check understanding, correct misconceptions and encourage students to explain their reasoning rather than simply memorising methods. This helps them build confidence and apply their knowledge to unfamiliar questions.
As exams approach, I place greater emphasis on exam technique, time management and recognising common question types. I can also provide targeted homework and review mistakes in the next lesson.
My teaching style is patient, supportive and encouraging. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My aim is not only to improve their grades, but also to help them become more independent, organised and confident in their own ability, both inside and outside the classroom over time.
