I always start my lessons with a "Calentamiento". This is a warm up before the lesson begins. Afterwards, I explain the anticipatory set to engage the student for the lesson ahead. After, I display the notes of the objective. After giving the student time to take notes I verbally explain the notes and break down the notes more thoroughly for better comprehension. I allow the students to ask any questions in regards to the notes. Later I display the CFU (Checking for Understanding). This is an activity that analyzes how well the student understood the Notes. After the "CFU" I give the student a break on Blooket, Kahoot, or Peardeck to review on a less intense platform.
Afterwards, I display the IP (Independent Practice). This assignment allows the student to use their notes and knowledge of the day to complete the assignment with little to no guidance to show proficiency.
Lastly, I show the student the exit slip. This is another activity that summarizes what was taught throughout class for the day. If there is time remaining at the end of class I use that time to go over homework and/or to review vocabulary terms of the unit. Homework is not lengthy. It is direct to the lesson covered. It is usually 5 questions long.
I do feel it is important to stay in communication with the parents as well to build community so I like to send emails to the parents to discuss what was covered and what needs to be studied before the next session.
