My Teaching Philosophy
"I cannot teach anyone anything. I can only make them think." — Socrates
I am a traditional teacher—perhaps even a little old-fashioned—who places great weight on reading, planning, real books, study skills, precision spelling, and grammar. However, I aim to seamlessly pair this with modern technology and vast digital resources to reinforce and extend a student's knowledge.
I believe that any student who wishes to learn can be taught, and even those who hold self-limiting beliefs can break through them. Because of my acting background, we break down together complex skills into manageable chunks using interactive exercises, games, worksheets, scaffolding, and even acting out extracts from plays! I also encourage students to critique and mark their own work alongside me to build true independent thinking.
Above all, I value empathy, kindness, patience, and a sense of humour. I want my tutees to reach their highest academic potential and leave each session with a smile on their face. When I am not teaching, you can find me writing, reading, exploring nature, gardening, travelling, or spending time with my cat.
