Monica Lavosky

As a former high school Spanish teacher, I understand the importance of making my classes interactive, fun and engaging. I am a heritage speaker of Spanish, originally from Cuba and I am passionate about the Spanish language and its diverse cultures. One fun fact about me is that I lived in Salamanca, Spain for two summers when I was studying for my Master’s degree.

During my high school career, I provided instruction in both private and public school for 29 years and had the opportunity to work with students of all levels from Beginner to Advanced Placement. For the past three years, I have taught private lessons both in person and remotely to adults and kids. I also have extensive experiencing tutoring and I have created and taught courses for Outschool, an educational marketplace for kids ages 3-18.

I pride myself in establishing a safe and welcoming environment in my class where the students feel comfortable as they communicate in Spanish. 

My lessons begin with conversation questions as a warm-up. I introduce the topic of the lesson with a video, podcast, slideshow, dialogue, sample sentences, etc., to provide a meaningful context for the new material. After the introduction of the new topic, I ask guided questions to help students create sentences based on what they have learned. Finally, we practice the new material with interactive activities and games that are either created by me, on Quizlet or other practice sites. Of course, the lesson content and dynamics will vary according to its specific content.
