Olá! I'm Monica, a native European Portuguese speaker from Portugal, and I've been living in the United Kingdom for over 10 years.

I offer personalised online European Portuguese lessons for adults and school-age children, with a friendly, practical and encouraging approach.

ABOUT ME

I hold a university degree in Geological Engineering and run my own children's yoga project, where I teach yoga to children.

My academic background has helped me develop an organised and structured approach, while my experience working with children has strengthened my patience, creativity and ability to adapt activities to different ages and individual needs.

Living abroad for over a decade has also given me a personal understanding of how important language and cultural connections can be, particularly for Portuguese families raising children outside Portugal.

MY APPROACH

I believe learning a language should be enjoyable, meaningful and connected to everyday life.

My lessons focus on practical European Portuguese, combining conversation, pronunciation, useful vocabulary and grammar explained clearly and in context.

For adults, I adapt lessons to individual goals, whether that means preparing to move to Portugal, communicating with Portuguese-speaking relatives or becoming more confident in everyday conversations.

For children, I use stories, games, creative activities and age-appropriate conversation to make learning Portuguese engaging and natural.

I particularly enjoy helping children from Portuguese families abroad develop confidence speaking the language and strengthen their connection with grandparents, relatives and Portuguese culture.

I welcome English-speaking learners and can also provide conversational support in Spanish when needed.

Although I'm not a formally qualified Portuguese language teacher, I bring native knowledge of the language, experience working with children and a genuine commitment to supporting each learner.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Every learner is different. I aim to create a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and progressing at their own pace.

My goal is to help students develop practical communication skills, enjoy the learning process and feel increasingly confident using European Portuguese in real-life situations.
