My lessons usually begin with asking you how you are.
Then we move on to the starter; in previous lessons I have played Bingo with the students regarding the topics of previous weeks to ensure the old materials remain in your long term memory.
For the main body of the lesson it entails a question section for me to understand where you are on that topic and what needs to be done for progress.
I am a big fan of using practice questions to consolidate learning. For GCSE Edexcel students for example, I like to find practice questions on that particular topic to go through in class.
Usually to start off with, we would go through one together; this is so that you know how to answer questions in exams i.e. where to find the marks.
After then, I like the students to have a go together in groups and work together; there is usually little help from me, mainly just prompts.
I then like for one of the students to explain the process of how they got to that answer. This is one thing I learnt from school where you learn something more by explaining it.
I love working with white boards, or if online, polls so engage with students.
At the end of the session, I provide some independent work which we then go through together at the end, or I mark it myself.
