Mike Readey

I am a Royal Society of Chemistry Scholar with a Natural Sciences (Chemistry) Degree.

My first priority is to establish what you already know and understand so that I can tailor my teaching to your individual needs. I'm enthusiastic about Chemistry, and I want you to develop a genuine understanding of the subject rather than simply memorising information.

Some aspects of Chemistry need to be explicitly taught and remembered. However, much of GCSE Chemistry can be understood, explained and calculated by applying a relatively small number of fundamental principles. My aim is to help you recognise and apply these principles so that you can approach unfamiliar questions with confidence.

Last year, while teaching as an unqualified teacher, my top-set Year 11 class achieved the strongest Progress 8 score in the school. This was achieved by using a range of teaching techniques, recognising that no single approach works for every student.

My online lessons are engaging, focused and tailored to you. I don't believe that simply lecturing a student one-to-one is an effective way to teach. Instead, expect plenty of questions, discussion and opportunities to demonstrate your understanding. Your answers will help me identify what you understand, where misconceptions exist and how best to move your learning forward.

Ultimately, my goal isn't just to help you answer Chemistry questions correctly, but to understand why the answers are correct.
