What my lessons are like
My lessons are online, one-to-one and built around you. In our first class, we talk about your goals, your current level and how you like to learn. Whether you're a complete beginner, planning a trip to Brazil, connecting with Brazilian family or friends, or wanting to sound more natural, I plan each lesson specifically for you.
I teach Brazilian Portuguese as it's really spoken. Each lesson combines conversation, vocabulary, grammar and listening, always in context. Instead of memorising long lists of rules, you'll practise the language through real situations, short texts, songs, videos and everyday expressions. I create my own materials, so the content matches your interests, from music and literature to travel, work or daily life.
Speaking is at the centre of every class. I create a relaxed and supportive space where making mistakes is part of learning, and I give clear, kind feedback so you can see your progress. After each lesson, you'll have activities to review what we practised.
My experience
I'm a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker and a qualified languages teacher with six years of experience. I hold a Teaching Degree in Languages (Portuguese, English and Arts), and I'm currently completing a postgraduate course in Literature. I've taught students of all ages, from young children to adults, including Portuguese for adult learners in São Paulo. I also teach English, which helps me understand exactly where English speakers find Portuguese difficult, such as pronunciation, verb tenses and gendered nouns.
Culture included
Language and culture go together. Through music, literature and everyday Brazilian life, you'll discover not just how to speak Portuguese, but how Brazilians think, joke and connect.
