Hola alumnos!
I like to begin my classes with a a basic competency test, where I speak to you using typical small talk conversations.
Cómo te llamas? De dónde eres? Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre? Te gustan los deportes? Clima, viajes, películas, espectáculos, restaurantes... etc.
Eventually, you become comfortable with these conversations and then I can incorporate more complicated follow-up questions. I like to add a grammar course in the middle of the lesson to sandwich in the boring stuff. The grammar course will be an explanation of a sentence structure with examples and then we will practice using the grammar. I can choose your grammar lesson or you can let me know if there's something specific that troubles you.
Next is the fun stuff... vocabulary! You can't have a conversation or apply the grammar that you've learned without knowing the words right? Vocabulary will be introduced in bulk. You will not have to worry about learning every word in one class period (although it would help). It's crucial to be exposed to as much vocabulary as possible to flesh out your speaking level. Again, you can't speak, if you don't have the words. You will get the opportunity to apply the vocabulary, which will help you retain it. Maybe not in today's class, maybe the next, or it may even be in real life! You'll learn vocabulary through games and challenges, so you'll have to activate those problem solving skills and make those connections.
Homework will be up to you. Every class I would like to be able request something small of you (study your vocabulary). There is always more that you can be doing outside of class time (like studying vocabulary). I just want you to get the most out of the class (so study your vocabulary).
I'm looking forward to meeting you! Buena suerte y nunca dejes de aprender!
