I worked in education establishments for 25 years as a specialist SEND teacher. Teaching from early years through to post 16- up to the age of 19 years of age.
I taught all subjects including my specialty Math and I was the co-ordinator of maths for the whole school, which was for pupils of 4 year old - 19 years of age.
As the co-ordinator I designed the curriculum for Math and ran training for the teachers so they could confidently plan and deliver Maths in real world contexts, from simple understanding of money, measurements, time through to looking at best deals for phone contracts, daily living costs and journey planning and day trips costs. All Maths - no matter what its contexts can be taught so it is relevant and realistic of the world we live in. That is my mission as a tutor to teach so that all math is relevant to the learner and build their confidence so they can transfer their knowledge for facing real world problems, with new knowledge, confidence and skills. This then supports them throughout their education and through to adulthood, so they can face mathematical challenges with resilience and understanding of how to approach them.
