Michael Smith

I’m a leadership development consultant and executive coach with over 20 years of senior leadership experience across defence, telecoms and major infrastructure programmes. I’ve led teams of up to 250 people, managed programmes worth hundreds of millions of pounds, and navigated the kind of organisational complexity that most leadership models don’t prepare you for. I now work with managers and senior leaders who want to lead more effectively and I bring that real-world experience into every session.

My coaching and development work is built around you, not a fixed curriculum. We start by getting clear on what you’re actually dealing with a promotion, a difficult team, a change programme, a confidence gap, a career crossroads and work from there. Sessions are practical, direct and focused on what changes when you leave the room.

I’m an Insights Discovery Licensed Practitioner, which means I can bring psychometric profiling into our work if it’s useful helping you understand your own leadership style, how others experience you, and where to focus your development. I also use 360-degree stakeholder feedback for clients who want an outside view of their impact.

I work with individuals at all levels from first-time managers finding their feet to General Managers running business units. Sessions can be online or in person across Yorkshire and the northeast, and I’m happy to discuss what format works best for you.
