I'm currently studying an English course called TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I will be receiving my certificate in October and I have had 1 and a half years and still on-going experience in being an English language partner for foreign English learners. I'm learning how to teach English methodologies, the principles of teaching, and currently I'm taking notes on the various types of grammar you can learn in a lesson such as: tenses, aspects, various categories of speech, determiners, articles and many more. All of these things can be taught to English learners of any level and of course the lesson materials will be adjusted depending on what level of English the learners are. I can find this out through an needs assessment of what the English learner wants.
Through my English language partner work, I have learnt how to communicate better with English learners in terms of what vocabulary I can use, how I can change my pattern of speech, and conducting a needs assessment. Typically this work can either be teaching things such as what I mentioned earlier, or just daily conversation. It is more consistent that it is just daily talk to practice their English and keep a consistent speaking schedule, as consistent practice is the best and most optimal way to learn a language. I'm happy to do both depending on what the learner wants.
