One thing I've observed is that when young people are taught something, the real-life application is not made clear to them. My tutoring method includes interactions, communication, highlighting a real-life application, creating an enabling environment for critical thinking, allowing each student to plan out a solution, and not confining everyone to a specific way of reasoning.
