As a practising scientist, I bring real-world applications of biology, chemistry and data analysis into lessons, helping students understand how the science they study is used in research and public health. I have worked in research settings, including laboratory environments, and contributed to published scientific work, which allows me to give students insight into how science is applied beyond the classroom.
I tailor each lesson to the student's individual needs, beginning with an assessment to identify strengths and areas for improvement. I use evidence-based learning techniques including active recall, spaced repetition and retrieval practice to improve long-term retention. Lessons combine clear explanations of challenging concepts with worked examples, exam-style questions and regular past paper practice. I provide targeted feedback using exam board mark schemes to develop both subject knowledge and exam technique, helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals.
I also focus on helping students develop strong exam technique, including how to interpret questions accurately, structure responses effectively, and avoid common pitfalls that lose marks. Where appropriate, I break down complex topics into smaller, more manageable steps to ensure students fully understand each concept before moving on. I encourage students to become independent learners by showing them how to revise efficiently and how to identify key information in textbooks, notes and mark schemes. My aim is not only to improve grades but also to build long-term confidence in science subjects, so students feel prepared for both exams and future study. I maintain a supportive and patient approach, creating a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with challenging material.
