My lessons are structured, supportive, and very student-centred. I usually begin by checking what the student already understands and what they find challenging, so the lesson is tailored to their needs rather than rushed or generic.
I break down complex Biology concepts into clear, manageable steps using simple explanations, diagrams, and real-life examples. I regularly check understanding through quick questions, discussion, and having students explain ideas back to me in their own words, which really helps build confidence and long-term understanding.
My lessons typically include:
- Clear explanations of key content.
- Worked examples and guided practice.
- Exam-style questions and past paper practice.
- Focus on exam technique and how to pick up marks.
- Time for questions in a relaxed, pressure-free and examination environment.
I adapt my teaching style to each student, whether they learn best visually, through discussion, or step-by-step guidance. If a student feels stuck or unconfident, I slow things down, break tasks into smaller goals, and make sure they leave the lesson feeling capable and motivated.
My experience includes working as a Year 5 teaching assistant, a laboratory assistant, and tutoring students independently as a self-employed tutor, including in-person tutoring. This has helped me learn how to explain scientific ideas clearly, stay patient, and connect with students at different levels.
Overall, my lessons are calm, interactive, and encouraging. I aim not just to improve grades, but to help students genuinely understand the content and feel more confident in Biology.
