All of my education, from pre-primary to Master's degree, has been taught in English and I have accumulated tutoring and mentoring experience from my experience in Amnick Social Enterprise. Additionally, my experience at Amnick was 100% online, I also have experience hosting online coaching sessions.
When my family and I moved to the UK, my father was the only one in our family that spoke very little English. For three years, he was learnt English and I served as his tutor for those three years. Now, he is able to understand and hold every-day conversations with native speakers. During my time in Highschool, I volunteered to do 1-on-1 teaching reading to children aged between 7 and 8 who were learning English as a second or third language. And since this was in an international school, these children came from diverse backgrounds, similar to mine, meaning I was able to use my mastery of other languages, familiar to me and the children, to make the learning more accessible to them. My experiences and skills make me perfectly suitable for this role.
I am able to teach reading comprehension, pronunciation, as well as verbal communication, and spelling and grammar.
My approach to teaching involved meeting each individual student at their level. First, gauging their exact level, set short and long-term goals for each lesson and each week, basing my exercises on this level, then giving them material and exercises to do outside of tutoring. I first teach them the basics, do an exercise with them, then another exercise to do on their own, correcting them as they go, and finally give them exercises or training to do outside of tutoring then using a portion of the next tutoring session to review. Everyone is different, meaning I know that some people require more or less lessons than others.
I would encourage every lesson to be spoken almost entirely in English to encourage confidence in verbal communication. Exercises would involve writing, going through an extract of a text, and practicing common conversations.
My lesson plans can work entirely around each individual student and their schedule.
