My sessions start off in a relaxed way with some knowledge recap from the previous week. If the student has a specific activity they want to bring to work on, that will be the basis of the lesson. Otherwise, I use exam questions as a basis for my lessons because they get straight to what you need to know. I find they help to identify knowledge gaps which we will work on together in a interactive, discussion based format.
My priority is always exam technique because so often students are able to explain a topic but feel stumped when they're tested on it in GCSE context! I want students to feel confident in understanding the subject AND being able to answer exam questions without those feeling like separate issues.
My own tutoring experience began with a family friend's request and then grew by word-of-mouth recommendations. I took a gap year to focus on tutoring having enjoyed it so much. I think being young and a student myself, I can easily connect to pupils make lessons feel more light-hearted than at school. 2 years of tutoring later, I am looking to expand my online work when I go to uni in September 2026.
I don't usually set homework as I know GCSE students have so much on their plate, but if requested / a crucial point in the year, I will happily provide extra materials.
