My online tutoring is designed to be a highly effective and judgement-free experience for every primary school student.
I am a highly dedicated private school student with a strong aptitude for mathematics. Currently, I am predicted top grades in advanced qualifications including Edexcel IGCSE Higher Tier and Further Mathematics Level 2 Certificate. Furthermore, I have demonstrated my abilities in maths through my consistent success in national competitions such as: earning Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates in the UKMT Maths Challenges, placing me among the top 11% nationally. In addition, I helped lead my group to a 3rd place finish in the competitive Maths Feast competition, displaying my ability to communicate complex ideas and work effectively under pressure. These are the sorts of skills I bring to my tutoring sessions.
My core teaching philosophy is built on patience, encouragement, and communication. Maths anxiety is a common barrier to face, and my goal is to help the student overcome it in such a way that will leave them more confident than before.
The lessons are structured in a way that can be fully adjusted to the student's unique learning style and current range of ability.
To determine this range, the first online lesson will include a past SAT Maths paper which will provide a good outline of what the student has or hasn't covered and their strengths and weaknesses. This will allow more personalised lessons where we can focus on the curriculum gaps and any underlying issues with exam technique or time management.
The first lesson is all about making a connection. We'll spend time getting to know each other, setting up the online environment and establishing goals. After that, our typical sessions follow a simple, effective structure:
1) Warm-up (a quick fun activity to kickstart the lesson)
2) Targeted teaching (breaking down a single new concept using visual aids, real-world examples to ensure you have a clear understanding)
3) Guided practice (student practises new skills with constructive feedback)
4) Review and Goal setting (a quick recap to cement learning and set a goal for the next session)
I highly recommend students use Google Classroom (which we'll set up in the first lesson) as it makes giving timely feedback on work much easier. However, the lessons can be adjusted if this is not possible.
