i struggled a lot during my time in a-levels and really lacked the support of tachers. since studing marine biology at newcastle university the lecturers have taught me ways to help studies and achieve higher marks on exam style questions which i wish someone wouldve told me while i was studying.
Alongside improving subject knowledge, I believe an important part of tutoring is helping students develop study techniques that make learning feel more manageable and less overwhelming. During my own education, I often found that understanding how to revise and approach exam questions was just as important as understanding the content itself. Through university, I have developed methods for active revision, organising notes effectively, breaking down difficult topics, and approaching exam-style questions with confidence and structure.
I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes without judgement. I understand that everyone learns differently, so I would adapt sessions to suit the student’s individual needs and pace rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to help them build confidence in their own ability and leave each session feeling motivated and capable of progressing independently.
I also focus on building long-term confidence rather than short-term memorisation, so students can apply what they learn across different topics and exams. I am patient, approachable, and committed to helping students feel supported throughout their learning journey, especially when they find certain areas challenging or frustrating.
