Mattea Carberry

My primary goal with my lessons is to best suit the needs of my students, whether you are trying to grasp the basics of a given area or refine the skills you already have. I hold American nationality, and therefore speak with an American accent and syntax. However, living in the UK since 2021 has equipped me with a sound knowledge of British English as well, both spoken and written. Additionally, I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature at UCL, meaning I have strong English writing and editing skills as well.

To guide the structure of my lessons, I will draw primarily upon the needs of the student so that our time spent is most beneficial and productive. When relevant, I will also be eager to contribute my own suggestions to further develop the student's learning according to their capacities and needs. In particular, I will be a suitable tutor for those learning English and those wishing to elevate their writing style. As a principle, I will always prioritise letting my students demonstrate their own thought/learning process ahead of providing assistance in order to foster confidence development and tailor my assistance most constructively to the student's needs.

Particularly for those who are learning English as a foreign language, I would like to reassure you that my lessons are a judgement-free zone and are intended to truly be a space for you to try and in that trying, grow. I have much experience learning other languages as well and I understand how daunting it can be to put oneself out there.
