Depending on the specific topic, make sure that the student knows the bases and then start interactive activities such as fill-in-the-blank sentences, matching games, or flashcards to reinforce vocabulary and gramma. For reading and comprehension purposes I would have the student read a passage aloud to practice pronunciation and then ask questions about the text to test understanding and encourage discussion. The student can then answer questions orally or on paper. All of this of course with feedback and comments given for improvment purposes.
