Matilda O’Neill

I am a friendly Modern Languages student at Newcastle University and I teach alongside my personal studies. Achieving top GCSE grades across the board, has given me an appreciation for how important it is to understand and enjoy what you’re learning. To achieve this, I tailor my lessons to each individual student’s needs, including their personal learning style, and keep lessons specific to their curriculum. Creating a supportive learning environment is at the heart of my teaching, as well as building rapport with my pupils so they feel comfortable to ask lots of questions.

To do this, I begin sessions with any new student by assessing their current position: what are they enjoying or not enjoying, what do they understand or not understand. From here, we can create a plan of how to move forward in a way which allows the young person to achieve their academic potential. This is entirely tailored to the individual student; everyone learns differently, so everyone should be taught differently. From interactive games and flashcards, to creating the perfect revision notes, together, my students and I will find the best methods for them and give them the tools to excel.

My lessons are interactive to ensure my students stay engaged with their learning and I also make sure I am teaching at the correct pace for each pupil. Everything is student-led in the sense that I will listen to and help identify the specific challenges my pupils are facing and spend more time on whichever areas they are struggling with.
