I gauge each student’s learning style from the outset and adapt my teaching approach to ensure the best possible understanding and progress. My lessons are structured but flexible, designed around each student’s goals and level. Sessions usually combine discussion, explanation and practical work. For example, we might analyse film and TV clips, explore key theories, or work through essays and portfolios step by step.

I support students with film and television analysis, theory, production and criticism. I also bring practical experience from working on live productions and as a costume assistant/designer, which helps connect theory to real-world practice. Alongside this, I use my strong background in art and media to recommend tailored reading and reference materials that support each student’s development.

Lessons are interactive and collaborative, with a focus on making ideas clear and accessible while encouraging independent thinking. I provide detailed, constructive feedback to help students improve and build confidence, drawing on my experience in tutoring and evaluating creative work.

I also place a strong emphasis on building core academic skills, including essay structure, argument development and critical writing. For students working towards exams or applications, I can help with planning, refining ideas and meeting assessment criteria. I aim to create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, asking questions and developing their own voice. Over time, this helps students become more independent, confident and capable in both their academic and creative work. I also aim to inspire students to explore their interests within film and audiovisual studies, helping them discover potential pathways and develop a clearer sense of direction for their future.
