Maria Ines Godinho Guarda

Hello, I’m Inês, a Portuguese historian with a PhD from King’s College London, where I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher. From 2023 to 2025, I was an Instituto Camões lecturer at Hankuk University in Seoul, where I taught Portuguese language and Lusophone culture. My teaching experience also includes courses at NOVA and CIEE Lisbon, as well as tutoring secondary-school students.

I teach European Portuguese to beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. My lessons are particularly suited to students who have had some contact with Portuguese and want to develop their skills further. I can help you improve your speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, according to your level and aims.

I plan lessons around each student’s needs. We can focus on conversation and everyday communication, work systematically on grammar, use texts and audio materials, or explore Portuguese-speaking cultures alongside the language. If you are studying Portuguese at school or university, I can help you strengthen your understanding and prepare for classes or assessments. I can also adapt lessons to professional goals and the situations in which you need to use Portuguese.

My approach is structured, supportive and practical. I explain language points clearly, encourage active participation and give constructive feedback, while making sure each lesson has a clear purpose. Whether you want to communicate more confidently, improve your academic Portuguese or deepen your knowledge of Portugal and the wider Lusophone world, lessons will be tailored to your progress and interests.
