Hi. My ethos with teaching is listen first. I believe that as much as the job of a teacher is to lead, it is also vital for teaching to be a dialogue, not a lecture. For this reason my lessons are often student-led.
I specialise in AQA GCSE English Literature with a particular emphasis on the poetry anthology (which I know can be quite difficult for a lot of students). My aim is not to reproduce the lessons your child might be having at school but to give them a new way of thinking. I will produce the lessons in a way that is specifically tailored to the student's strengths and inject fun back into learning. I also place a particular emphasis on teaching revision techniques that actually work. I want my students to feel that they can ask any question and take as much or as little time on specific subject as they want.
In the past to help students I have utilised a number of techniques from reading poetry out loud to producing essay plans and watching clips of plays. I want students to find joy in what they are doing. Normally, my lessons will start by asking the student if there is anything they want to go over. For example, something that their teacher might have mentioned and moved on from too quickly. Following that, I will normally take what we have discussed there and link it to our previous lesson. My goal is to create sustained long term knowledge and confidence with the subject.
