I didn't always love science. It was a handful of teachers who were passionate about their subject, and made it feel relevant, who turned that around for me - which is a big part of why I want to teach now. I went on to graduate top of my cohort in Biomedical Sciences and I've spent a lot of my spare time helping family and friends work through scientific ideas they're stuck on.
My lessons are built around figuring out exactly where a student's understanding breaks down, rather than repeating the same explanation that didn't work the first time. That might mean using an analogy, a real-world example, or working backwards from an exam question to see where things go wrong. I know from being tutored myself at school how much difference it makes to have someone explain a concept a second way, at your own pace, and without judgement.
Each session is tailored to what the student actually needs that week, whether that's working through homework, building exam technique, or going back to strengthen a foundation in a topic. I'm comfortable teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level Biology.
Most of all, I want students to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they started - not just with the content, but with the subject itself.
